VETERANS DAY 2014
On Veterans Day, Chapter members were asked to particpate in a program at the Akron Veterans Service Commission .
(Summit County)
This consisted of questions and answers with a group of grade school and junior high school students and a lunch there after. What a great program it turned out to be.
In addition, Dave Burden set up a skype session who is in germany at this time with the Army ( already completed three tours in the middle east) and the kids were able to askquestions of him and three buddies who were on camera also.
Many thanks to the VSC and Dave for the honor of participating in the event.
From there Patty and I went with Mike Hoofman to the senior citizen center in Wadsworth and honored 16 resident Veterans who reside there with pins and certificates. You would be amazed the tales and pictures they have to show. I would highly recommend doing this if you get a chance.
Project Restore
We are presently working to assist in returning Watson Park to a new upgraded condition. This park is dedicated to the 19 Vietnam Veterans who gave everything from the goodyear heights area of Akron. We were lucky to hook up with
Charlie Maerean, a Vietnam Veteran who initially established the park. Who, has now joined the Chapter and we will be working with him to bring it back into shape.
More details to follow.
Annual Day at the Akron VA Outpatient Clinic
(treats for all who come in)
December 5th came early in the the morning as once again the chapter came together to provide treats for all who came in to the clinic and all those who help and take care of us throughout the year.
This is the gang set up at the main building
This is our setup at the other building.
By and large everyone had a great day with lots of laughs and many new friends made.
I do wish to make one note: Although everything was taken care of by the chapter, one couple:
( Karen and Harry Proctor)
insisted on making a donation. We wish to aknowledge and express our gratitude to them.
May they have a Merry Christmas and a blessed New Year.
Annual Food Baskets for Widows of Veterans
This will take place on December 13th. We will meet at Farmer Boys at 0700 have breakfast and go from there.
Details and pix to follow.
NAIVC (North American Indian and Veteran Center)
They will be having their annual kids Christmas party and dinner on the 20th of December at the Norton Community Center. The Chapter made a $300.00 donation to obtain toys for the kids.
Flag Boxes
This is another Work In Progress project
We are going to establish a means by which used American Flags can be dropped at locations by the public and then taken care of in the proper way. This one is Mike Hoofman's baby as he thought of it.
Please proceed to the flag projects pages for all the details.
