Continuing the Tradition

This past year (2009)

This year we tried a different approach to our food basket programs for Thanksgiving and Christmas.  We targeted a forgotten segment of the Veteran population:  the Widows of Veterans!

It was quite an experience to be able to help and meet these ladies.  They are usually on a low fixed income and struggle to survive.  We were able to help a total of twenty for both holidays, providing an abundance of food and $25.00 dollar gift certificates to local stores.  All of them were very appreciative of our help and many hugs were given, along with an abundance of "ohio sinus".  The widows were from World War Two thru the present conflicts.  One WWII lady said: "This is the first time in the 22 years since my husband died that any veterans group has made any contact with her"

The ladies from Altrusa International were very much a part of this event also.  They collected and donated can goods, donated wrapped Christmas gifts for the ladies, and helped build and deliver the baskets.

IF YOU WANT TO TRULY EXPERIENCE THE JOY OF GIVING, I WOULD HIGHLY SUGGEST THAT YOU FIND SOME OF THESE WIDOWSTO HELP!
